Project Objectives
The project focuses on strengthening the connectivity of the Danube region through its shared Roman heritage. The main objective is to establish a Cultural Route along the wider Danube area, following the Roman Limes, which will ultimately be proposed for certification by the Council of Europe.
The route is based on the region’s rich common Roman history and aims to promote, interpret, and connect key archaeological sites through transnational cooperation and a unified presentation concept.
The project places strong emphasis on involving local communities, encouraging sustainable cultural tourism, and developing innovative interpretative tools to make Roman heritage more accessible to the general public.
Key activities to be carried out through the project include:
- Establishing a transnational network of stakeholders (archaeologists, museums, local authorities, tourist agencies, and other relevant partners);
- Exchanging knowledge and experiences among Danube countries and developing joint strategies and standards for the preservation and presentation of Roman sites;
- Creating digital and interactive content such as virtual and augmented reality (VR, AR), themed trails, a mobile application, and a virtual exhibition;
- Forming a Scientific Committee to provide expert support and guidance throughout the project duration;
- Developing the concept of the Cultural Route within a broader thematic region, with the potential for future expansion.
Through this project, we aim not only to safeguard cultural heritage, but also to make it accessible and appealing to all visitors – from history enthusiasts to modern travellers eager to explore unique stories from the past.
